A new 7 storey extension to the Nemours children’s hospital in Wilmington, Delaware. The building included both 44 bay Emergency and 140+ bed clinical departments along with welfare facilities for staff and patents
The design team were situated in numerous locations, across the USA. This meant that clear communication and concise coordination had to be managed by Ibsecad. The shape of the building, complexity of the services and the need for prefabrication created further challenges on the build.
A full 3D building service model was created which incorporated the architect and structural engineers Revit models. These were used to update and assist the client, trade contractors and design team during regular onsite meetings. The frequent use of video conference facilities ensured a smooth transition between coordination and site installation. Extensive meetings and factory visits assisted with the development and prefabrication elements on the project; such as the patient en-suite pods, nurse team work stations and the prefabricated corridor racks. Ibsecad also ensured sub-contractor requirements were taken into account at the coordination stage.
A direct result of the BIM process with consistent, clear communication ensured the majority of problems were found and overcome before arrival on site. Efforts to ensure the prefabricated items on the program were completed correctly and on schedule meant that many rooms and corridors were created and ready before the building had been constructed.
