Louisiana State University Medical Centre

The Project
$700m, 424 bed university hospital bringing state of the art healthcare and medical education to the state of Louisiana. An important step in providing the residents of New Orleans with a modern healthcare facility, post Katrina. The facility was made up of Inpatient Towers, Diagnostics and Treatment Centre, Ambulatory Care Building and underground Site Works spanning a 1.5m+ square foot site.

The Challenge
The first American project for Ibsecad.
High quantities of prefabricated items including: 800+ service modules, 80+ headwalls types and 40+ bathroom POD types spanning three buildings, each with their own unique difficulties.
Extensive underground site works modelling which was made especially difficult with unstable and inconsistent ground as typically seen in the New Orleans area.

The Solution
Hands on approach with a small yet highly skilled Ibsecad team based onsite for almost 18 months attending daily workshops and liaising with the design team and sub-contractors . Problems would be overcome onsite and work distributed, internationally, to our Regional Directors on a continuous 24 hour cycle. This setup enabled to solve the problems quickly onsite, with no lag in communication and have a fast turnaround on deliverables.

The Result
Through the use of prefabrication Ibsecad enabled Skanska USA to successfully achieve their aggressive construction schedule.
For Ibsecad it was our first project in the USA through the success of this project it enabled us to win more projects in various locations across the country. In addition to this a permanent office has now been opened in New York City.
